Information we collect

We collect what you give us, basic data from your visits to our site, and details you submit through our ads.

Information you give us. When you contact us, chat with us, book a class, create an account, shop with us, or join, we may collect:

• Your name, email address, and phone number
• The classes you’re interested in and your training experience
• Your child’s name and age if you’re signing up a child, along with your details as parent or guardian
• Anything you include in a form, chat, message, call, or text
• Order and shipping details for shop purchases
• Membership details such as billing information, emergency contact, and signed waivers

Card payments are handled by our payment processor. We don’t store full card numbers.

Information collected automatically. When you visit our website, our website platform may collect your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and the site that referred you. This happens through cookies and similar tools — see Cookies and tracking below.

Information from others. If you respond to one of our ads (for example, a Facebook or Instagram lead form), we receive the information you submit there.

How we use your information

We use your information to run our gym and keep you in the loop, including to:

• Answer your questions, messages, and chats
• Schedule your classes and follow up about them
• Set up and manage memberships, billing, and attendance
• Process and ship shop orders
• Send class reminders, schedule changes, and updates about your training
• Send news, events, and offers, which you can opt out of anytime
• Run, improve, and secure our website
• Keep our gym safe and meet our legal obligations

Text messages (SMS)

If you give us your mobile number, Sal’s Jiu Jitsu and Grappling may send you text messages. Texts may include class and booking confirmations, class reminders, schedule changes, membership and billing notices, and occasional promotions.

• Reply STOP to unsubscribe at any time, or tell us by phone.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

Cookies and tracking

Our website runs on Wix, which uses cookies and similar tools to keep the site secure and working, support logins, booking, and checkout, and give us basic visit statistics. Our chat widget, online booking, and shop may set their own cookies.

We don’t currently use advertising pixels or third-party analytics, such as the Meta Pixel or Google Analytics. If we add them, we’ll update this policy.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some features may stop working. Our site doesn’t currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals. Our Cookie Policy has more detail.

How we share information

We don’t sell or rent your personal information. We share it only when needed to run our gym:

• Service providers that work for us, such as our website platform (Wix), booking, membership, and payment providers, and customer relationship and messaging platforms. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
• Legal reasons, when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our students, staff, or others.
• Business transfers, if our gym is sold or merged. Your information would stay protected by this policy.

All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Photos and video

We sometimes take photos and video at classes, events, and competitions, and share them on our website and social media. If you’d rather not appear — or don’t want your child to — tell a coach or give us a call. We’ll honor that going forward and remove existing posts where we can.

Children’s privacy

We offer youth classes, but our website and online tools are meant for adults. A parent or guardian should sign up anyone under 18 and provide the child’s information.

We don’t knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information without a parent’s consent, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Data retention and security

We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or as required for tax, accounting, and legal reasons. For members, that typically means the length of your membership plus a reasonable period after.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No website or system is 100% secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You control how we contact you and can ask what we have on file:

• Texts: reply STOP to any message.
• Emails: click “unsubscribe” in any marketing email.
• Access, correction, or deletion: call us at (630) 809-5540 or write to us at the address below. We may need to verify your identity, and we may keep records the law requires.
• Cookies: see Cookies and tracking above.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under state law. Contact us to make a request, and we’ll respond as required.

Third-party sites

Our website links to sites we don’t control, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Their privacy policies — not this one — govern what they collect, so review them before sharing information there.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
